I really like the idea of a true gradient from bottom to top, but I don’t know how to achieve that except to buy about a dozen different shades of blue.

I asked Hubby for his input regarding the design, and he likes the brown borders. So I adjusted it a bit. I ask found that I have a couple balls of appropriate colors already in my stash (Log Cabin and Weathered Denim), so I want to use those. I also found a nice pink and yellow variegated that I think will work well for the butterflies. I’ve almost ready to order the yarn!

After debating for weeks about color choices, I finally ordered some yarn. Apparently, Jimmy Beans Wool offers 20 yard samples for $1.75, so I ordered 8 different sample balls: 7 different blues and the pink and yellow one.

So I recently discovered madelinetosh Pisces yarn:

And now I am wondering if that would be better than the dark blue, since butterflies are only out during the day and not at night.

I also chose the colors for my butterflies. I decided to go with a bunch of different colors in madelinetosh. They sell 20 yard sample balls, so that is perfect.
